PLAINVIEW, Texas (BP)--Wayland Baptist University swept a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader against Oklahoma Christian last Saturday by identical 66-62 scores.

The Flying Queens, who led 35-24 at halftime, overcame a furious Oklahoma Christian second-half rally. The WBU women did not score a field goal in the second half until the 13:50 mark and allowed the Lady Eagles to close to within one at 37-36. Although the Queens, now 12-8 and 3-3, never trailed in the game, OC tied the score five times in the second half, the last time at 61 with 1:23 left in the game.

Freshman Cassie Birkenfeld came off the bench to lead the Flying Queens with 16 points, while Cami Rea added 14. Cari Lynn Stridde and Amy Foote also posted double figures in scoring with 13 and 10 respectively. Shaun Weaver pulled down 11 rebounds. For OC (9-8, 1-4) Kristi Little led all scorers with 21 points.

In the men's game, neither team shot well. The WBU men made just 40 percent from the field, while the Eagles shot just 41 percent. Wayland's Duane Youngberg led all scoring with 18 points, followed by Jeff Caha with 12. Sean Parker and Deng D'Awol chipped in 11 a piece. The Eagles were paced by Devin Nightengale and Marco Hanna with 14 points each.

The Pioneers, winners of two straight, climb to 12-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while OC falls to 9-9 and 0-5.
