St. Mary's snaps HBU's streak

By Staff

HOUSTON (BP)--HBU wanted to close out its six-match home-stand on a high note. The Huskies had won five straight since returning to the friendly confines of Sharp Gym, and a win on Tuesday would cap off a very successful run at home.

St. Mary's University had other ideas.

The Huskies had two winning streaks snapped on Tuesday night. First and foremost, the 15-11, 15-5, 15-12 loss to the Rattlers broke a six-match run in the win column for HBU. Second and a little less important, the Sharp Gym streak is over at 23 matches. The Rattlers used an aggressive offense that kept the Huskies off balance all night, and HBU could never really get anything going.

Jaime Brown led the way for HBU with nine kills and a game-high 20 digs. Rachel Dinkins had eight and 16, and Nathana Janca added six and 10. Janca also had six blocks and two aces, both team-highs. Amy Boiteaux and Angie Perry combined for 26 assists, and Lori Jordan chipped in 13 digs.

Jennifer Cabanilla paced the offense for St. Mary's with a game-high 15 kills. Leslie Arnold had 15 digs and Kristelle Rodriguez tossed up 31 assists. Suzie Sammis had a game-high eight blocks.

HBU, which fell out of the NAIA Top 25 on Tuesday, falls to 8-5 on the season. The Huskies now face an 11-match road trip that begins on Friday with a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader in Dallas. The Huskies will take on Southwestern Adventist University and Paul Quinn College. St. Mary's, once an NAIA power now in NCAA Division II, improves to 13-2 on the season.
