Deacons look to improve 4-4 record

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (BP)--Wake Forest volleyball continues its home matches, hosting Georgia Tech and Clemson this weekend. The Demon Deacons are riding a three-game winning streak at home, coming off a win over Furman on Tuesday.

Wake is 11-7 overall and 4-4 in the ACC, including a win over Clemson and a loss at Georgia Tech. These games are crucial for Wake while they are teetering at fourth place in the ACC.

The Demon Deacons host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Friday, Oct. 19 and the Clemson Tigers on Saturday, Oct. 20 both at 7 p.m.

Clemson comes into the match after suffering a 0-3 loss to Maryland Saturday night. With the loss the Tigers fall to 6-10 overall and 2-6 in the ACC. The Tigers face the Duke Blue Devils in Durham Friday night before traveling to Winston-Salem.

In their last meeting against Clemson, Wake Forest defeated the Tigers in a close five game match, 28-30, 30-23, 30-22, 25-30, 15-12. Two Demon Deacons had season highs that game. Junior setter Ashlee Phillips recorded 67 assists and senior Trina Maso de Moya tallied a season high 23 kills and 23 digs.

Georgia Tech comes into the match riding a three-game winning streak, enjoying wins over Maryland, Virginia and Arkansas. The Yellow Jackets are currently 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the ACC.

When the Deacons faced the Yellow Jackets at the end of September, they lost in four games, 23-30, 16-30, 30-28, 26-30. As a team, Wake was held to a .119 team hitting percentage while Georgia Tech posted a .235 percentage. The Yellow Jackets dominated the game in kills, 66-49, and digs, 65-45.
