Campbellsville puts two on All-American squad
Thursday, Mar 21, 2002
By Scott Mooney

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. (BP)--Campbellsville University senior Kristin Patton and junior Whitney Lee both earned a spot on the NAIA's first-team All-American squad. Patton, a 6-1 guard from Berea, Kentucky was an NAIA first team All-American last year. Lee was a Kodak All-American last year and this year and now adds the NAIA first-team All-American honor to her resume. Lee also earned a spot on this year's NAIA Academic All-American squad.

Patton and Lee led Campbellsville to its sixth consecutive Mid-South Conference regular season title this year and a 29-7 season, a school record for wins. Campbellsville won two games in this year's NAIA National Championship Tournament, before eventually falling to national runner-up Southern Nazarene University in the "Elite Eight."

Kris has taken us to three "Elite Eight" finishes. She's the most versatile player I've coached," Wise commented on Patton. "The value she places on the team concept makes her special. How many All-American players would change their position going into their senior season, especially form post to perimeter without questioning or complaining? Her selection points to her game and impact on the team's game." Patton finished her career with 1,660 points.

Lee already had been selected as the 2002 Mid-South Conference "Player of the Year," an honor that Patton won in 2001, and been named as a repeat player on the Kodak All-American squad. "Every coach is looking for a Whitney Lee to build a program around. Plain and simple she delivers," Wise remarked. "I've never seen another rebounder like Whit in my 27 years coaching in the NAIA. The great thing about her is she would trade all of these awards for a national title. She gets my vote for the NAIA's poster player for the Champions of Character program." Lee, with one season left to play at Campbellsville, has 1,297 points and 1,080 rebounds. Her rebound total is 275 shy of the school record for career rebounds.

"Having two players selected to this squad is quite an honor, placing our program on the level with Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma City," Wise commented. Those teams have won ten national championships. Campbellsville has made 13 appearances in the national tourney and has reached the semifinals four times, all in the past seven years.
