NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Belmont dropped its second consecutive match with a three-game loss to Austin Peay in the Aquinas Sports Center. The Lady Govs ended a five-match losing streak, improving to 3-7 while the host Bruins fell to 1-8 on the season.

Austin Peay jumped to an early 6-2 lead, as the teams combined to commit seven errors in the first 10 points. Julie Burkhalter got things rolling for the Lady Govs as she served Austin Peay to six consecutive points. Elizabeth Murrieta recorded a pair of kills in the run to give the Lady Govs a 14-3 lead. Belmont trimmed the lead in half at 16-8, sparked by an ace by Lindsay Cleveland and a pair of kills from Kati Baumgartner.

A 6-2 Lady Govs rally would put the game out of reach, as Austin Peay cruised to a 30-13 game one victory. Austin Peay pulled away late in game two as the Bruins committed four errors down the stretch to give Austin Peay a 30-23 game two win. The Lady Govs would use three 4-0 runs to separate themselves from the Bruins in the final game and go on to a three-game victory with a 30-18 win in the match.

Amy Walk led all players with 15 kills in the match and 15 digs. Murrieta and Sarah Schramka recorded 11 and 10 kills respectively. As a team, the Lady Govs hit .385 and recorded seven aces and 52 digs.

Karime Binkley led the Bruins with seven kills, while Baumgartner added six kills and a team-high nine digs. The Bruins were limited to 27 kills and a .087 hitting percentage.

Belmont will try to snap out of a two-match losing streak Sept. 19 when they host Lipscomb in the Aquinas Sports Complex.
