Belmont athletic department announces staff changes

By Matt Fairchild

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Belmont University’s Department of Athletics has promoted Eric Jones to assistant athletic director for marketing and Matt Wilson to assistant director for media relations.

Jones, entering his seventh year as director of marketing for athletics, has been at Belmont since 1993. In addition to his duties as marketing director, Jones was also the director of baseball operations for each of the last four years. Jones pioneered the Bruins Webcast, which features men’s and women’s basketball as well as baseball. A 1992 graduate of Belmont University with a B.B.A. in marketing, Jones also earned his master’s degree in mass communications from Middle Tennessee State in 2000.

Wilson just completed his fourth year as Belmont’s media relations director. A native of Columbia, Tenn., Wilson graduated from Belmont in 1998 with a B.A. in history. A member of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) and the USWBA (United States Basketball Writers Association), Wilson oversees all 17 Belmont varsity sports, but works specifically with men’s basketball, baseball and the men’s and women’s soccer programs. Over the last three years, Wilson has also gained experience working with the media relations departments of the Nashville Sounds and Tennessee Titans.

“Eric and Matt have displayed tremendous dedication and commitment to Belmont University,” said Director of Athletics Mike Strickland. “Their continued leadership within the athletic department has earned them the right to be assistant athletic directors. They have functioned in this role over the last year and this is recognition of their value to the program.”

Belmont University is located in Nashville, Tenn., and is a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
