By Staff

WINGATE, N.C. (BP)--Sophomore forward Jen Kennedy's goal in the 15th minute of the game was the deciding score as Catawba College (10-5 overall, 5-1 SAC) held off a late Wingate University rally to win 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action at Wingate Stadium.

Kennedy and Catey Conner put together several short passes in front of the goal to beat Wingate keeper Elizabeth Rogers. It was Kennedy's seventh goal on the season. The next 75 minutes were scoreless as both teams had several scoring chances, but failed to capitalize.

Catawba sophomore goalkeeper Kim Clayton had three saves for her third shutout of the season. Elizabeth Rogers had three saves for the Bulldogs. Both keepers went the distance.

The Bulldogs are 11-5 overall, 3-3 in SAC. Wingate's next opponent will be the Tusculum College Pioneers this Friday at 3:00 p.m. This is Wingate's last home game of the season and will be Senior Day. Friday's game is the result of a postponement from earlier in the season. Catawba will travel to Clinton, S.C. to face the Presbyterian Blue Hose Friday. Match time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
