BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (BP)-Justin Lilly struck out 10 batters in his second consecutive complete-game performance in game one and Brandon Scott silenced a late Gardner-Webb rally in game two, as the visiting Camels by scores of 10-3 and 8-6 April 19.
Lilly (4-2) was masterful yet again picking up his fourth victory of the year in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader. The senior from Raleigh, N.C. put an exclamation point on his day striking out Gardner-Webb’s final three batters to end the game. Lilly scattered eight hits and surrendered just two walks, while allowing two earned runs.
Scott’s day was nothing short of spectacular as he not only earned his second save of the season in game two, but he also went 5-for-8 with five RBI and three runs scored on the day. In addition, the senior from Robersonville, N.C., stroked three doubles, a home run and stole five bases.
Scott, who has 70 career stolen bases, is three short of breaking Campbell’s all-time record and seven short of tying Nic Carter’s single season record (32).
