Locke stepping down as BP Sports columnist
Saturday, May 24, 2008
By Staff

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Longtime BP Sports columnist Brad Locke has announced his plans to discontinue writing his weekly column.

“Writing this column has been a blessing for me,” Locke wrote in his most recent column. “I have learned a lot through writing it, thanks mostly to my readers, especially the critics (those who were willing to engage in thoughtful, reasoned dialogue).

“Alas, I can no longer continue this endeavor, for various reasons. I hate that, but change is inevitable.”

Locke, a sports writer for the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal in Tupelo, Miss., began writing the weekly column for BP Sports in 2001. His column also appeared on OneNewsNow.

“Brad is a leader in Christian sports commentary and his contributions to Baptist Press for over seven years helped establish us as a leader in the growing field of sporting news that shares a Christian perspective,” said Will Hall, executive editor of Baptist Press. “His writings combine his passions for sports writing and for sharing with others the life applications of God’s Word.

“I admire his talent and Christian character and look forward to his writing for Baptist Press again.”

His final column was posted on BP Sports May 24.

BP Sports will announce a new lineup of regular columnists in the near future.
