ORLANDO, Fla. (BP)-Baylor sophomore Kyle Jones has been named national player of the week by Golfweek after his first career win at the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational, becoming the first player in program history to be honored by the publication.
Jones captured his first career win last week at Baylor's spring opener in San Antonio. He came from behind on the final day to win the tournament by two strokes with a final round 67, which tied for the field's lowest round in the tournament.
"It's a great feeling," Jones said. "It's a sign to myself that I'm moving in the right direction, but I still have a lot of work to do,"
Currently ranked 79th by Golfstat, Jones has a 71.83 scoring average for 18 rounds played this season. Since coming to Baylor in the fall of 2011 Jones has participated in all but two of the Bears' tournaments, and he has finished in the top 25 in nine of the 11 tournaments in which he has competed.
